Well who saw today coming, even in the first half Sunderland looked to be struggling to find the goal, the last two games including this one have been an improvement in performances. It was the same old story with two injuries early on Bruce being forced into taking off Mr Consistent Phil Bardsley after a nasty clash of heads with fellow Sunderland defender Nedum Onuoha. Leaving the left back out cold which seemed like a long time, it was a worrying sight for any decent football fan. Bruce later on said that Phil was up and walking soon after being stretchered off and will be fine.
But what is more concerning strikers Welbeck who was the other player which was taken off in the first half and had been a doubt all week with a hamstring problem, so why would Bruce risk playing him knowing we are so thin on strikers.......god knows!
We seem to have a curse upon us on as Asamoah Gyan had to be taken off in the second half also with a hamstring, issue this is a nightmare. Officially Sunderland AFC have reported that both strikers will be seen and evaluated in the forth coming week, but Sky Sports are saying that both players are to miss the rest of the season.
Sunderland won this game through its midfield, Sessegnon and Muntari finding their form I personally thought Sessgnon was fantastic today, Henderson was also fantastic scoring two good goals in open play. The three of them have been under much criticism in the passing months, Henderson for not being the same since playing for England for the first time. Sessegnon showed signs of amazing talent but that was early days in the team with little tricks and flicks, Muntari has been poor since joining but in his defence hadn’t played for a long while and coming to a new team and country can’t be easy. Captain Lee Cattermole also played his part in commanding the midfield, as well as the appearance of Steed.
Young Colback deserves a mention after he played an excellent part and has done his chances of being on the first team list no harm at all.
But after reading the Wigan fans comments left on our message board blaming the ref for giving us the game, I guess they need some to blame for them now being in the bottom three, it’s not like their performances over the entire season has put them there.
The amount of ribbing we’ve taken from the deluded Geordies only now to be now on equal points to them with their very lucky draw against Blackpool. Now Blackpool do have a case about the ref with Simpson handling the ball not once but twice in the same instance in the box, that’s twice in two games that the same player has got away with murder. With Newcastle having Liverpool and Chelsea yet to play, let’s hope Sunderland can keep up with what we did today and if nothing else we can finish above our lesser people down the road.
