Sunderland AFC have confirmed that planning permission has been requested to build a 100m world class casino complex on the grounds surrounding the Stadium of Light. The Complex will include a super casino, luxury hotel, leisure facilities, top class bars, clubs and restaurants.
The proposed complex will bring over 1200 jobs to the city and will add to the city's recent Olympic sized swimming pool, redeveloped Empire theatre and super sized cinema complex.
Las Vagas Sands Inc, who have numerous Casinos in the American City of Sin are currently in talk with the Sunderland AFC, with Bob Murray flying to the states himself to discuss the proposed move.
It's a million miles away from the Sunderland I knew as little as 5 years ago as Sunderland Council continue to redevelop the area into one of the countries most vibrant young cities, yes, Im talking about Sunderland!
I take my hat off to Sunderland council, who are making every effort to make the city appealing to tourists from all over the country and Europe.
Sunderland city centre is a shadow of it's former self, with ever increasing big name shops, pubs, clubs and restaurants opening, not to mention it's very modern city look.
Rumours of classy modern city apartments and development of riverside areas, to replicate the Newcastle quayside area, indicates that the future is looking bright for the former shabby looking city.
If further development can be made to the coastal areas like Seaburn, with more restaurants, bars and entertainment, we could see the city once dubbed as one of the worst places to visit in the UK, become one of the best.
Carry on the good work!
