The Black Cats produced an insipid display in their Premier League clash against the Canaries at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.
They were only able to get four of their 18 shots on target during the 90 minutes, and Vito Mannone was forced to make several smart saves to deny the visitors at the other end.
With Sunderland bottom of the table at Christmas, the survival odds are stacked against them - although they were able to edge a little closer to safety at the weekend as the three teams above them all lost.
However, with tough festive fixtures to come at Everton and Cardiff before the visit of Aston Villa on New Year's Day, the pressure is clearly mounting.
Italian striker Borini told The Sun: "I'm angry because we want to win and we can't do it in the league.
"At home, we need to show more character and control to win. The fans need to stay with us.
"It's up to us if we stay up or not. The other teams don't win the games for us."
