The South Korean international scored his third goal in red and white during last weekend’s win at Fulham.
Gus Poyet suggested afterwards that Swansea had passed the deadline to end Ki’s loan during the January transfer window and the 24-year-old would be at the Stadium of Light until at least the end of the season.
Poyet: “Swansea had an opportunity to call him back and they didn’t. That was a difficult day for me because I was waiting and waiting.”
But Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins today insisted that the Welsh club could still take Ki back to the Liberty Stadium.
“He is our player and we can recall him up until January 31,” Jenkins said.
Ki is as keen as Poyet to sort out a permanent deal.
Ki had not been part of Swansea boss Michael Laudrup’s plans this season and the former Celtic man is on hefty wages at the Welsh club.
