The 28-year-old Benin international is a doubt for Wednesday night's friendly trip to Derby after damaging the ankle on Monday. However, manager Martin O'Neill is hopeful that the problem is only minor and that he could yet figure at Leicester on Saturday.
"Sessegnon hurt his ankle in training yesterday and I don't know whether he will make Wednesday's night's game," he told the club's official website, www.safc.com.
"Hopefully he will be okay for Saturday's match. He's actually going for a scan this afternoon."
Sessegnon returned to training last week after being given an extended break following his country's World Cup qualifiers at the end of last season, and did not make the trip to Sweden for Saturday's friendly against Helsingborgs because he would have had to miss a day's training to apply for a visa in person.
The player, who has been a big hit on Wearside since his ?6million arrival from Paris St Germain in January 2011, has been linked with a move away from the club this summer with his former club and Arsenal among those touted as potential buyers.
However, O'Neill insists there has been no formal interest in him to date, and that he is desperate to hang on to arguably his most creative player.
