The ?12million man claimed his first goals for the club in Saturday's 2-2 Premier League draw at Swansea, helping himself on two occasions as the Swans' defence parted in front of him.
Manager Martin O'Neill knows the Scot is not yet fully match-fit after missing much of former club Wolves' pre-season campaign.
Saha, who arrived on Wearside on a one-year contract earlier in the summer, is expecting to see much more from the 25-year-old as the season progresses.
The 34-year-old Frenchman told the club's official website: "I feel respect for [Steven]. I am not surprised at all [with his start]. This is just Steven's first few games and I think we can expect even more from him.
"That is a good prospect. I don't think this is the last time we will be talking about him."
