Sunderland’s defence have been the down fall since the start of the season, being pretty much a shambles.
Clearly Dick has been burning the midnight oil over this massive problem the Blacks Cats are facing, and so he should be.
Rodwell in his Everton youth days was seen to be the next big centre back to come out of England, even though he played in a midfield role and was look to play there. Moving on to Man City again he was looked upon as a replacement for then injured centre back Vincent Kompany , but he continued in his midfield role.
Jack has been quoted saying in the past that he prefers the midfielder positions, but would maybe look to move into a defence position later in his career. Although he has also said that one of his biggest influences in football was centre back Rio Ferdinand.
One thing is for sure Sunderland need to do something, and quickly to sort out this mess or face relegation yet again. Rodwell certainly has the physical side of being a centre back, but has he got the mental side too?
