Time to go Mr Reid but our thanks go with you!
The last seven-odd years have been fun, filled with ups and downs. We don't
mind the downs so long as there are ups to go with them. This has not happened in the last eighteen months. Why?
Tactics - Reid's and the coaching staff's. Playing 4-5-1 has not worked over
the last 18 months so why continue to use it against Arsenal when your on a
hidding to nothing? Why not play the team that beat Aston Villa?
Quinn for Flo, this substitution was looking backwards and not to the future!
What message did this give to Flo, keep playing as the only competition for your place is an aging hitman? Flo is not good with his head and in all truth did he want to come from Glasgow anyhow?
Purchases - Hit and miss - no money to build when we were in the top seven -
Clubs fault - After that Mr Reid made some very dubious buys - Laslandes, Medina and Nunez come to mind. Recently the buys have been better - MacAteer, Reyna and Piper.
The Players - no passion for the club - (excluding Craddock and Williams) - Bad team selection again?- Mr Reid liked to play two stoppers in midfield - McCann is not the man he was since his injury and protracted contract negotiations, Reyna looks jaded after the World Cup and needs a rest, Arca - not yet up to speed needs to look up and needs someone running forward to hit! The back four have always looked a little dodgy apart recently for Craddock. Up front, Flo is not a natural hitman in the Quinn mold so why use him as one?
Whoever comes in will not as the press intimate, have a difficult job in reviving the club, the players, the stadium, the fans are all there we just need someone to give us all something to believe in!
My thoughts on the Medias favourites to suceed Reid:
David O'Leary, yes please, Never thought Leeds should have got rid of him! but
is the money there for him to want to come?
George (defend, defend, defend) Graham, no! no! no! please no! Did well with
Arsenal and to a lesser extent with Leeds but we don't need the oldest swinger
in town!
Mick McCarthy, go down well with the Irish lads - one more why not? - don't
think he'll break his contract (as per M. O'Neill).
Niall, alittle too early but should be there to learn and take over once has
coaching badge (but please retire from playing).
Alan Shearer, more chance of my gran taking over
The rest: No chance!

Dear Sunderlandmad,
Just a few things to say - Its the players WHO WEAR THE BOOTS NOT PETER RIED
also seems to me the board might be to blame because of there 1st division mentality.......(.the top of the first div brings more money into thiers and the share holders pockets) what aload of crap.
Good football is what the fans need.
Best wishes,

So farewell Peter Reid - We have heard all the accolades - undoubtedly a
nice guy and Quinn, a great supporter. We have to question his ability and
record in the Premiership and ask what he could achieve. His ability to
handle players at this level is also in question, such fallings out with
players we could ill afford. We know he's sick of the criticism surrounding
all this and will probably feel relief at leaving the post. - But that's
enough about Mick McCarthy.
Appoint David O'Leary now, before it is too late. He is young and ambitious,
has great faith in quality young players and has a proven Premiership record
with a big club. Above all, like Cloughie, he is not frightened to speak out
against his Board of Directors. Exactly the sort of qualities that every
Sunderland supporter admires. The decision to dismiss Peter Reid, will only
be the right decision if the right man is brought in as his replacement. My
gut feeling is that the board will take the soft option and it will be a
disaster for the club.

As a Sunderland supporter from South Australia , I feel Peter Reid has gone as far as he can go with our team. When Robbie Keane rejected a move to Sunderland I realized that if we can't attract players of his quality then a change of manager is the next step for Sunderland to go. Even our second half of last season I felt we were on the slide and very fortunate to escape relegation. I remember all the hype when Lawrie McMenemy took over many seasons ago and we were relegated to the third division, however a manager of say David O'leary's calibre would only enhance our future and attract many quality players which our supporters deserve. Finally, all the best to Peter Reid, and thanks for the last seven years giving us all true supporters hope for the future.

Thanks to all who wrote in on this subject - the above are just a few of what we recieved - but you now have a chance to air your views AGAIN!
Have your say: Is Wilkinson the right choice?
Sunderland have acted quickly in replacing Reid with the appointment of Howard Wilkinson as the new manager - post us your views on this CLICK HERE
