Mick McCarthy has signed Darren Carter on a three month loan from Birmingham City.
Carter became a legend amongst Blues fans after his spot-kick in the play-off final penalty shoot-out against Norwich City at the Millenium Stadium secured Blues return to the top flight after a sixteen year absence.
The promising midfielder has seen himself slip down the pecking order at St Andrews and has joined Wearside in a bid to gain some first team experience.
The move however, is unlikely to be made permanent, as Carter has just signed a new three year deal.
Carter should be available for Sunderland's next game at home to Preston NE.
