Sunderland’s loanee Sebastian Coates has finally put pen to paper on the opening day of the summer transfer window.

Signing from Liverpool for an undisclosed fee, which is rumoured to be around the 2 million pounds mark, on a 4 year contract.

Coates originally brought in by Gus Poyet has clearly impressed current manager Dick Advocaat, after playing 13 games for the Black Cats last season, being a big part of the final 5 games which rescued SAFC from relegation.

Coates has recently been taking part in the Copa America, playing for his home international side Uruguay.

Coates commented “I’m really happy to be here, I will try to improve on last season and hopefully the team will too.”

“Hopefully we’ll continue how we played how we finished.  For me, I played really well at the end of last season and the team did as well so I hope we can be good this year.”

“I’m fit so I’m hoping to get more games.”
