With Pepe Reina expected to be on the move this summer, it is said that Anfield chiefs have given the former Swansea manager the green light to bring the Belgian stopper in as his replacement.
Mignolet has been considered one of the best keepers in the Premier League in recent months and seasons, despite Sunderland’s relatively poor league finishes, but while Rodgers has identified Mignolet as the man he wants there is also said to be a contingency plan in place in case the deal does not go ahead.
Mignolet joined the Black Cats in June 2010, and while the fee was undisclosed it was thought to be around the £2m mark, meaning that Sunderland could be looking at a healthy profit should the Belgian international wish to move to Merseyside.
