Jones Likely To Miss Blackburn Tie

Striker Jones has had a recurrence on a knee injury that sidelined him for four months during the summer and forced him to sit out the home defeat against Portsmouth last weekend.

The Trinidad and Tobago international is due to undergo tests to discover the extent of the injury he picked up in training last week and so is almost definately ruled out of Wednesday nights match against Paul Ince's side at The Stadium Of Light.

Elsewhere, goalkeeper Craig Gordon has still not recovered from the ankle injury which has ruled him out of the last five matches whilst George McCartney is also ruled out with the foot injury he picked up in the away defeat at Chelsea.
