It wasn't me!

Sunderland centre back Lamine Kone is still at the centre of a transfer mess, claiming he knew nothing about the statement that was released on his behalf which followed up on an apparent transfer request.

Kone also has denied all knowledge of any transfer request that has been handed into the club, which was addressed in David Moyes press conference.

Moyes said that Kone was very much in his plans for the Sunderland squad in the new season, which is the opposite of that was quoted in the supposed Kone statement.

The statement also read that Kone had been promised a new improved contract on Wearside having fort off relegation but still has not received anything, hence this whole mess.  Moyes further addressed this by saying the player will be offered a new deal on the 1st September.

The whole ordeal seemed to divide the fans, some sided with Kone holding club chairman Ellis Short the blame, believing the player should have been given a contract straight away and not cash in on him.  The otherside was to point the finger to Kone and more so his agent, playing social media games to get the defender either a better deal on Sunderland or a better deal at another club.

Kone was included in Moyes squad that lost to Man City this weekend, his performance seemed unaffected.

Further on the rumour merry-go-round, there are places reporting today that Kone will remain a Sunderland player and the whole situation will be put to bed - Everton have ended interest and are pursuing different avenues.

Others are saying that Everton have now upped their offer from 18 to 20 million pounds.
