Chief Sunderland scout Ricky Sbragia has left Sunderland AFC, in a bid to return to coaching.
Sunderland owe Ricky big time after he was dropped in the deep end when Roy Keane walked out of the club in 2008, he took charge even though he didn’t really want to have the responsibility. He was given an 18 month contract in the same season, doing an outstanding job keeping the Black Cats in the premier league but resigned at the end of that season, current Sunderland boss Steve Bruce was then appointed
Chairman Niall Quinn was so grateful towards the Scotsman he offered him the Chief Scout role at the club adding Ricky had a “job for Life”. Ricky has travelled the world looking at new players, and has been rumoured to have had a hand in bring Gyan to Wearside.
Besides the crap that has been written in some newspapers and internet site, Ricky has not been sacked from Sunderland, trying to blacken Sunderland and Quinn’s name. But has left of his own accord to pursue his career in coaching rather than scouting, in which Ricky has made himself a name in as being one of the best around.
As a fan and I am sure I speak for the rest, I wish Ricky every success in his future and a massive thank you goes out to him, if it wasn’t for you doing your bit at our club who knows where we would be.
