The Sunderland striker was restricted to a substitute’s outing in last weekend’s draw against Southampton after struggling with an Achilles injury.
Gus Poyet: “The injury is fine.
“We were very good with the way we dealt with the initial inflammation of the Achilles.
“He trained yesterday and today with no problems.
“It was a very difficult situation for Steve to be part of the (Southampton) game with the problem with the Achilles. He stopped after the warm-up practically.
“But after talking to the medical staff and the way we wanted to play, it was important for him to be part of it
“I was trying not use to him, but you saw what happened.
“But he didn’t damage his Achilles in those 20 minutes and was alright after having Sunday off.”
