Fit Frazier Campbell will not be rushed back to first team action even thought Sunderland is desperate for strike force.
Sunderland legend Niall Quinn recently expressed losing Campbell to injury a bigger loss than losing money grabber Darren Bent. The 23 year old scored six goals in six games after finding his form, before his knee ligaments went against Man United.
Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has told the striker he now needs to build up the psychological side of his game.
After such a major injury Campbell was first thought that he wouldn’t be back this season at all, but has made amazing recovery steps to get to the point he is at. He played around thirty minutes of yesterday’s reserves game against West Ham, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
Bruce commented "You have always got to deal with the mental side of it,"
"I remember when I broke my leg when I was younger and ended up trying to tackle with my other foot. You are always a little bit hesitant.
"You need a whack on it and all of a sudden, you are confident again and you know its okay.
"It's very difficult for any player who has been out for such a long time."
