Many press and internet sport sites have been reporting that Bruce is looking into the possibility signing Sunderland’s current loanee’s. This has came off the back of the official announcement that winger Ahmed Elmohamady will be signing, the fee is agreed with both clubs, the player has also agreed his terms and seems over the moon to be here.
Nedum Onuoha from Man City has been fantastic the highlight of his season on Wearside being “that” goal he scored against Chelsea. The goal was compared to the World’s best footballer Messi and is arguably Sunderland’s goal of the season. As Elmo, Onuoha has expressed how happy he is playing for Sunderland and how he has settled in on wearside. Bruce commented, "Nedum Onuoha is a bright boy, a good defender, great to have around and has made a huge contribution.”
"We will make that a permanent deal at £2.5m. He has been fantastic in his first year in the Premier League. “
John Mensah is a grey area when he is fit he really is like his nick name, the rock, but for such a solid guy he suffers an awful lot of injuries. Mensah is on his second stint of loan deals on Wearside because of Bruce being spilt over taking the risk of signing him playing so well, over the amount of injuries he picks up. Bruce has also been quoted saying on having to leave the choice of offering Mensah a permanent deal until the end of the season, with it being such a hard choice.
Inter Milan midfielder Sulley Muntari came as a massive deal, getting a player of his stature to Sunderland at such appoint in the season. Muntari as Stephane Sessegnon (who was another great capture) both took big pay cuts to play here, Sessegnon signing a full contract. The deal is in place between Sunderland and Inter for the player to sign at the end of the season BUT it’s down to the players’ personal terms. Although Sunderland fans have not seen the best of Muntari yet, because of not playing or training for six months at Milan, Bruce and Niall Quinn are very excited by him. The player has also said in the last few days just how well he has settled in up here, and is loving being at Sunderland football club, but is that enough?
The biggest doubt over getting any of the loanees will be Man United’s Danny Welbeck, the striker took a game or two to find his feet, but once got himself settled in the lad has been on fire. Scoring goals for fun until he picking up an injury, losing him was a massive blow especially adding to that Sunderland lost Darren Bent to his money grabbing ways, and Frazier Campbell already out on long term injury. Sunderland Chairman Niall Quinn has said that the club will be making an offer for the striker but it’s completely down to Alex Ferguson to let him go. Again several newspapers have reported that Sunderland will sign Welbeck on a further season long loan next season, but this is a misquote from Sunderland’s Chief Executive Steve Walton in which he said “In his opinion” the best Sunderland could get is another loan deal for the player.
