Ruben Caicedo, agent to super Paraguayan striker Salvador Cabanas has revealed just how close Sunderland was to actually signing the South American.
The Black Cats where due to sign the top goal scorer in the January transfer window until the striker was involved in a horrific incident which has left him in a critical condition after being shot in the head, his agent is quoted saying, "Everything had been arranged, the offer had been accepted by America, we had arranged everything, even the salary of the player. He only had to do his medical examinations."
"In addition, America was looking for a player to replace Cabanas but unfortunately this accident happened and for the moment everything has failed."
