The England U21 international is currently taking in a second stint at Championship outfit Sheffield Wednesday.
He has netted four goals during a productive stay at Hillsborough, but will be due back on Wearside when a short-term agreement comes to an end on 1st January.
It has been suggested that Sunderland will then look to offload Wickham on a permanent basis during the winter transfer window.
Poyet has, however, rubbished such reports, claiming that the 20-year-old remains part of his plans.
Gus Poyet: "Nothing's been decided, although it's not something I would usually comment on. But we haven't even talked about that (a permanent departure).
"He needs to play and after he gets back from loan, we will talk with him as well.
"We knew he needed to play a few games and we are keeping an eye on him all the time."
