Under 23 coach looks to be about to hand in his notice, with a move to Wigan Athletic on the cards.
The position for Andy Welsh will be a promotion for the coach, as he will be working with Wigan’s first senior side.
Welsh and Warren Joyce are old acquaintances from there days in Manchester, although it is a rumour that the move has been on the cards for some time.
Welsh has seen several of his boys break into the first senior squad, although that has been helped along due to Sunderland’s ever-increasing injury list.
Former Sunderland defender Cliff Byrne is thought to be the man to take over Welsh’s position, as he as been assistant to Welsh in coaching the u23’s
